Description
An SDS (Slotted Drive System) drill is a heavy-duty rotary hammer designed specifically for high-impact drilling into reinforced concrete, stone, and masonry. Unlike a standard impact drill that uses a mechanical “ratchet” vibration, an SDS drill utilizes a pneumatic piston mechanism. This creates a much harder-hitting blow, allowing the machine to do the work so the operator doesn’t have to apply excessive physical pressure.
The “SDS” refers to the unique shank of the drill bit, which features longitudinal grooves that “lock” into the chuck. This allows the bit to move back and forth like a piston while remaining securely gripped, preventing the bit from slipping—a common issue with standard 13mm keyed chucks under high loads.
